Directors of the Libraries Meeting

26 Oct

Tomorrow, the Directors of the libraries in DeKalb County will meet at the Malta Public Library to continue our county wide meetings discussing the future of library services in Illinois. To no one’s surprise, the State of Illinois has not paid the library systems all of the money they were allotted in 2010. What does the future hold if they do not get the promised payment in December?

Well, we know that the five northern systems are in the process of merging. They will merge by July 1, 2011. Again, what does this mean?

We know that future of delivery is shaky but what about the on-line catalogs and other services? No one knows but the future will definitely be different than it is now. The libraries in the county are continuing to monitor the merger and will communicate all changes to our patrons.

Board of Trustees Took Final Action

26 Oct

The Board of Trustees took final action in open session on Wednesday October 13 to terminate the contract with the DeKalb Clinic because of the results of the Phase 2 environmental studies. The previous resolution of the Board still stands:

The DeKalb Public Library, as the cornerstone of a growing and dynamic community, provides easily accessible information and a welcoming environment to all its patrons. In order to extend this standard of service, the Library’s Board of Trustees has resolved unanimously to expand and improve the Library’s services and facilities.
