HELP WANTED!: KEYS is looking for a few good teens

The DeKalb County KEYS (Keep Encouraging Youth to Succeed) is looking for youth to assist with a local project.

Youth need to register by April 15th.

WHO: DeKalb County youth, ages 12 to 18  (need 10-15 youth)

WHAT: Youth will conduct evaluations to assist KEYS in identifying local “Youth Friendly Businesses.”  We need youth (all asset levels) to tell us what expectations they have as a consumer.  As an evaluator, youth will visit local businesses, record their “customer” experiences, and gather other relevant information that will help determine how our local businesses support the youth of our community.

Training session 1: Monday, April 18, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Training session 2: Wednesday, April 20, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Conduct 2-3 evaluations: April 21 – May 8 (flexible)
Meet to discuss evaluations: Week of May 9, evening
KEYS Asset Builders Awards*: Friday, May 27, 8:00 – 9:30 a.m.
(*this date is optional, but we would like to have youth participate in the presentation at awards ceremony)

WHERE: All training sessions and follow up meetings will take place at the Kishwaukee Family YMCA.  Evaluations will take place in the DeKalb/Sycamore area.

WHY: We are interested in finding local businesses that meet the criteria of a “youth friendly business.”  A youth-friendly business treats teenage customers with respect, hires youth, encourages their school success and helps prepare them for future careers.

Youth Friendly Businesses intentionally connect with youth and families.   Businesses seek to find ways of connecting in positive ways with youth and families, and giving them employment opportunities and education around job seeking skills.

Business benefits when young people develop leadership skills and share their enthusiasm and unique perspectives. Businesses need young people for their energy, ideas, skills and ability to learn. Young people are also key customers for many businesses.
