Books for Teens – Sex & Violence, Clean & Dirty: One Author’s View

Mike Mullin, author of the post-apocalypse novel Ashfall, recently posted an article to his blog entitled “I Write Dirty Books, and I’m Proud of It.” In the article, Mullin discusses sex and violence in books intended for teens, what causes a book to be labeled clean or dirty, and why we need more dirty books for teens. I thought it was a worthwhile article, so I’m sharing it with you.

TAG: Teen Advisory Group!

Look, guys, it’s really simple.

The Teen Advisory Group needs you.

You sit down with me, DeKalb’s Friendly Neighborhood Teen Librarian.

You get free pizza.

You get to choose the stuff YOU actually want to read, see, and use at the library.

I make sure that stuff is added to the collection.

How simple is that?

So … this Thursday, February 23, @ 6:30 PM. I’ll see you there!

ADVENTURE! @ your library: Heroic Role-Playing for Teens!

Evil threatens. The world needs heroes.

Time to step up!

Take part in a game of collaborative storytelling where YOUR decisions create the action and control the course of the adventure.

Plus, you get to stomp bad guys.

The library that brought you the Anime Alliance and the award-winning Heroes @ your library introduces a new program for teens, run by DeKalb’s own Librarian Superhero!

Thrill to the twists and turns of a story that YOU help to create, where your actions mean the difference between defeat and victory!

Our first game is February 5, 2012, at 1:00 PM, and we’ll meet every other week thereafter. There are a limited number of spots available, however, so sign up now on the event calendar at the DeKalb Public Library homepage:
