On Monday, October 6th at 6:30 p.m. at the Ellwood House Visitor's Center (509 N. First Street), Fantasy author Howard Andrew Jones comes to DeKalb to talk to us about the importance of fantasy fiction—why we still read it, and why we should! Howard Andrew Jones writes historical fantasy and is the author of The Chronicles of Sword and Sand, including the novels The Desert of Souls and The Bones of the Old Ones. This Big Read program is brought to you by the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
This workshop, given by the American Red Cross, teaches children basic First Aid and safety including:
-how to get help
-how to stay calm in an emergency
-what to do in case of a fire
-what to do if someone is choking
-what to do if someone has ingested poisonous liquids
-what to do if someone received a burn
-and how to control bleeding
This is a free workshop for children in grades Kindergarten through 5th. It is a one-hour long workshop that will be held in the lower level meeting room. There is no registration necessary.
