What are Friends for?

The Friends of the DeKalb Public Library believe in the
importance of a strong, relevant and well-funded library

Friends Make a Difference!

  • Friends raise money for programs, materials, and services, such as a puppet theater for Youth Services, prizes for the Summer Reading Program and the popular Mystery Theater

  • Friends assist library staff with ongoing collection development and special projects, such as funding the preservation of the oldest known (1859) DeKalb County plat book, recently discovered in the Library. This invaluable document has been copied (both hard copy and digital) and has be made available to the citizens of DeKalb

  • Friends serve as a link between library staff and the public

  • Friends volunteer at library events and often provide the refreshments

  • Friends encourage donations of money and hold an annual in-house book sale, soliciting donated books from the community for the sale
