Adult Services

Our Adult Services department is comprised of books, audio/visual materials, and periodicals. Overall, Adult Services houses thousands of items, all of which can be found using our catalog. This collection is housed primarily on the main floor , with some items kept on the upper level, accessible by stairs from the main floor. Unfortunately, as most of the library was built in 1931, parts of the building are not handicap accessible including the upper level of the main floor. If you ever require assistance with materials on the upper level or elsewhere, do not hesitate to ask either a clerk at the main circulation desk or a librarian at the reference desk.

The books in our Adult Services department are divided between fiction and non-fiction. The library has an entire room devoted to our fiction collection in the southeast section of the main floor. Mysteries, bestsellers, and romance novels are all kept up-to-date with attention to what is most popular among our DeKalb area readers. The non-fiction section is just as expansive as our fiction collection and even more closely scrutinized for timeliness and accuracy. The commonly held notion that public libraries are simply for fiction readers does not hold true at DeKalb Public Library. We cater to the researcher, or student, as well as the casual reader in every facet of our operations and goals.
