T.A.G. Means Teens!

T.A.G. stands for “Teen Advisory Group.” It’s for teens who love the DeKalb Public Library, are active readers, and, most importantly, want to have their questions answered and opinions heard. As the name suggests, T.A.G. members will help advise and discuss which items, resources, and programs the DeKalb Public Library needs for its teen patrons. Meetings will include book discussions, strategy sessions, and, yes, PIZZA! Also, teens do not have to live in DeKalb in order to be a member of T.A.G.—if you use and love our library, then we want you to attend!.

Our first meeting will be on June 5, 2008, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. If you or your teen have any questions, or are interested in joining, please contact program coordinator Steve Roman at 815-756-9568, ext. 2, or send him an email at stever@dkpl.org.

Destination Wonder Sets Sail for Earthsea.

In the realm of Earthsea, on the isle of Gont, a young boy will grow into his world’s greatest wizard. But how does a young boy become worker of the most powerful magicks? How does a proud child become a wise man? And what hard lessons must he learn along the way?

Long before J.K. Rowling wrote of Harry Potter, Ursula K. Le Guin explored what makes a wizard in her world-famous Earthsea Trilogy. Join us at Destination Wonder, DeKalb’s book discussion group for fans of science fiction, fantasy, and horror, as we discuss this fantasy classic, consisting of the novels A Wizard of Earthsea, The Tombs of Atuan, and The Farthest Shore.

This discussion meets on June 4, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. Refreshments are provided; all you have to do is attend and enjoy the journey as we explore the furthest reaches of space, the remotest worlds of magic, and the darkest regions of nightmare! If you have any questions, please call the DeKalb Public Library at 815-756-9568 and ask for Steve Roman, or send him an email at stever@dkpl.org.Remember, though, this discussion is intended for mature teens and adults.

Anime Alliance!

Do you like anime, Japanese animation? Do you know somebody who does? If so, then come join our Anime Alliance, the DeKalb Public Library anime club!

This month we’re meeting on May 21, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Each month features something new and different to enjoy! We’ll even provide snacks! But be warned—we can only accommodate up to twenty teens, so you must sign up ahead of time!

If you have any questions, please call the DeKalb Public Library at 815-756-9568, extension 22, and ask for Steve, the program leader. You can also send Steve an email at stever@dkpl.org. Remember, though, this group is intended for teens!

Basic Internet Class

The DeKalb Public Library will start Basic Internet classes in January. These will be hands-on, one-on-one classes conducted by the Reference department.
Every Thursday from 2-4 p.m., one of the library staff will be available to teach the classes. These will be in the format of three one-hour classes, and we encourage participants to sign up for all three.
The first class will be the use of the mouse and keyboard, the second will be Internet searching and the third will be e-mail.
For questions and sign up (we can accommodate two people per hour), stop by the reference desk or call (815) 756-9568, Ext. 2.
